How to Apply
Thank you for your interest in the Summer Transportation Institute at UMass Boston. To apply for the Institute follow the following six steps. For questions, send an email to summer.institute@umb.edu.
- Step 1: Complete this on-line application
- Step 2: Prepare a typed, double-spaced 250-word essay entitled, (i) STI applicant: “How the Summer Transportation Institute Can Assist Me in Reaching My Career Goals.” STI applicant, please click here to upload your essay; (ii) STI II applicant: "How I applied what I learned from attending the Summer Transportation Institute." STI II applicant, please click here to upload your essay.
- Step 3: Submit most recent unofficial or official school transcript. Applicant, please click here to upload your transcript.
- Step 4: Ask your teacher to submit a letter of recommendation. Send her/him the URL to this page. Recommender, please click here to upload your letter of recommendation for the applicant. Thank you!
- Step 5: Submit your most recent State health form from your physician (within a year of application date). Applicant, please click here to upload your recent health form.
- Step 6: Submit UMass Boston Youth Program Application. It can be downloaded here. Applicant, please click here to upload your UMass Boston Youth Program Application.

On-site registration available. Do Step 1 above (on-line application), once submitted we will contact you with instructions for on-site registration and Orientation on July 6, 2015. Please make sure to bring in your most recent health form and come in with a legal guardian to fill out the UMass Boston Youth Application form. No student shall join the Institute without these two forms.
